Knee & Joint Pain
Knee pain and joint discomfort — frequently caused by muscular referral patterns rather than the joint surface alone.

Knee and joint pain is very common, but the actual source is often not where people expect. Pain felt in the knee joint is quite frequently a referred pain pattern coming from tight or dysfunctional muscles in the quadriceps, hamstrings, calves or IT band. These muscles can refer pain directly into the knee, creating sensations that feel very similar to cartilage wear, ligament damage or arthritis.
Importantly, a purely physical and visual assessment is often not sufficient to determine the true cause. Imaging (such as MRI or ultrasound) is frequently needed to differentiate between muscular referral, actual joint surface issues, or a combination of both. Many people have visible wear on imaging but relatively little pain, while others have significant pain with minimal structural changes — highlighting how muscular and neuromuscular factors play a major role.
Our approach to knee & joint pain
Trigger Point & Dry Needling
Trigger points in the surrounding leg muscles commonly refer pain into the knee. Dry needling has shown to be effective at releasing these deep points, often reducing the referred knee pain significantly by addressing the muscular source directly.
Motor Point Needling with Electrostimulation
Inhibited or poorly firing muscles around the knee can lead to abnormal joint loading and pain. Motor point needling combined with gentle electrostimulation may be highly beneficial for restoring normal muscle activation patterns and reducing stress on the joint itself.
60W High Intensity Laser Therapy
When inflammation is present inside or around the joint, our 60W Class IV laser can penetrate to depths that support tissue repair and help reduce swelling in areas that are difficult to reach with manual techniques alone.
What to expect
Many patients notice improved knee comfort and easier movement within the first few sessions, particularly when muscular referral or neuromuscular imbalance is a significant contributor. The total number of treatments needed varies depending on the duration and underlying factors. Dr. Truth will provide a personalised assessment and realistic expectations during your initial consultation.
